What you will need is a piece of wood, a metal bar to make the gauge with, some screws and nuts (I am using 'all thread' in these photos), an adjustable square, pliers and something to drill some holes with. Some of them you can get at a hardware store close to you and maybe some of the materials are in your home. So long as you are prepared and organize everything before getting started!
